About This Award
The Brower Youth Award for Environmental Leadership honors outstanding young people creating environmental change in their communities. Originally launched by the Earth Island Institute in 2000, the award recognizes young leaders who are taking bold action to address environmental challenges — now extended to include Kenyan university and college students working to make a difference in conservation, climate action, or sustainability.
Award Details
- Six (6) winners will each receive a $3,000 cash prize
- A short documentary film will be produced for each recipient’s environmental work
- Winners will be sponsored to attend an international recognition event featuring workshops, networking, and leadership development
- All travel, meals, and accommodation for the event will be fully covered
- Winners will join a global alumni network of youth environmental changemakers
Eligibility Criteria
To apply, applicants must:
- Be between the ages of 13 and 25 as of May 20, 2025
- Be residents or students in Kenya, currently enrolled in a college or university
- Be actively leading or deeply involved in an environmental initiative, campaign, or project
- Submit their own application (no nominations or third-party submissions)
Application Requirements
- Complete the online application form through auscholarships.com
- Submit a recent photo of yourself
- Share detailed information about your environmental leadership work
- If shortlisted as a semifinalist:
- Participate in a video interview
- Submit a letter of support from a mentor, teacher, or project leader (not a family member)
